State of Bar Stocktaking

Although EPOS technology has come along way, data collection for bar stocktaking is generally 100 years behind:

  • Most pubs, bars and stocktaking firms still use pencil and paper for stock data collection, slowing down the process and increasing the chance for human error.
  • Most other Stocktaking systems are spreadsheet based systems which expect you to collect and calculate product totals by hand.
  • Guesswork is still the main mechanism for calculating how full an open bottle is, leading to inaccurate and misleading results.

Consequently stocktaking is often seen as a chore - a necessary evil to satisfy the accountant rather as a useful business tool.
